HONOLULU: Officials in Hawaii told residents and visitors to prepare for heavy rain, flooding and mudslides as Hurricane Lowell, a major Category 3 storm, passed to the west, the National Hurricane Center and local authorities said Sunday.
A tropical-storm warning covered two islands. The bigger threat for many shorelines is surf, not the eyewall. NBC News described the swell as life-threatening.
Florida’s own holiday forecast is a local thunderstorm problem, not a hurricane problem. The Pacific is carrying the named storm tonight.
