Zelensky says the war will run into winter after talks with U.S. envoys

KYIV: President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expects Russia’s war against Ukraine to continue into the winter after meeting U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Sunday, the BBC reported.

The pair had been in Moscow with Vladimir Putin a day earlier. NPR said they called the Kyiv talks “substantive.” There was no announcement of a breakthrough.

A winter war is a logistics war: power plants, air defense, conscription. Zelensky’s public message was that Ukraine should plan for all three.

The White House had not issued a detailed readout by Sunday night Eastern.
